Take a quiz embedded in a section
How to answer a multiple-choice, multiple-response, or fill-in-the-blanks quiz inside a course section, and why it blocks lesson completion until you pass.
Some sections have a short quiz mixed into their content. It's separate from your course's exam, if it has one (see Take your course exam); a section quiz only covers that section, and you have to pass it before the section counts as finished.
Opening a section with a quiz
A quiz appears as its own card, usually below the section's text. It comes in one of three types, each with its own instruction line at the top of the card:
- Choose the correct answer — multiple choice: pick exactly one option.
- Choose all correct answers — multiple response: pick every option that applies (there can be more than one).
- Drag and drop words to complete all answers — fill in the blanks: drag words from a word bank into the blanks in a sentence.
Until you answer and pass the quiz, the Next lesson button at the bottom of the page stays disabled, with a note reading All quizzes have not been completed next to it.
On your course's very last section the button's label is different — Complete lesson if the course still has other work pending (like an unpassed exam), or Finish course if this really is the last thing left. Answering a question
Select an option to answer a multiple-choice or multiple-response question, or drag words into the blanks for a fill-in question. Nothing tells you yet whether your answer is right — that only shows up after you submit.
At the bottom of the quiz card:
- Previous steps back to an earlier question — disabled on the first question, since there's nothing before it.
- The button on the right reads Next until you reach the quiz's last question, then switches to Submit. Next turns on once you've answered the question you're currently on; Submit only turns on once every question in the quiz has an answer. If a quiz has only one question — like the example below — it's simultaneously the first and the last, so Submit is what you see from the start.
Submitting and seeing your result
Selecting Submit grades every question in the quiz at once and shows a Quiz Results panel: a pass/fail heading, your score as a percentage with a progress bar, and a table breaking down each question as Correct or Incorrect.
You need a perfect score to pass — every question in the quiz has to be correct in the same attempt. There's no partial credit; a section quiz either passes at 100% or it doesn't pass at all. (This is different from your course's exam, which can use a lower configurable passing threshold — see Take your course exam.)
When you pass, the section completes itself automatically — you don't need to separately select Complete lesson or Next lesson afterward. The screenshot above shows this: the footer's blocked-quiz note is already gone and Next lesson is enabled right on the results screen.
If you don't pass, the panel instead reads You have not passed. — with a note that you need 100% to pass, and a Retry Quiz button that clears your answers and starts the quiz over from its first question.
Revisiting a quiz you've already passed
Reopening a section whose quiz you already passed shows your past result directly, with a Take again button. Retrying this way lets you retake the quiz without touching your already-passing saved answers — useful for practice without any risk to your section's completed status.
