Generate a course with AI

The AI course-creation wizard turns a short description into a complete course: chapters, sections, and generated section content, plus a cover image and short/rich descriptions. Nothing is saved to your organization until you reach the last step and click Create course.

Start the wizard

1. In your organization, go to Courses.
2. Click Generate with AI, next to Create a course.

This opens the wizard. A step list on the right shows all 11 steps: Intro, Language, Target learners, Learners' level, Course duration, Learning outcomes, Tone of voice, Prerequisites, Course name, Course structure, and Course descriptions. You can collapse it with Hide steps / Show steps.

Describe your course

On the first step, What course can I help you build?, type what the course should be about — for example "I want to create a course about warehouse fire safety procedures for new staff" — and press Enter (or the send button). Every later step uses this description, plus any reference documents you add, to generate its suggestions.

Add reference documents (optional)

The Reference documents card on this step lets you upload material for the AI to ground its answers in — for example an existing policy document or training outline. Click Add files to upload PDF, DOCX (Word), TXT, or MD files.

• Up to 5 files, 20 MB each, 50 MB total.
• Each file's status moves from Queued → Uploading → Processing to Ready. If no readable text could be extracted (for example a scanned PDF), it shows No text extracted instead.
• Click View text on a ready file to see what was extracted.
• Click the remove control on a file to delete it.

Answer the guided steps

The remaining steps walk you through the rest of the course, in order:

1. Language — choose English, Norwegian, Danish, or Dutch. This is the language the AI will write all generated content in, and (for your own account) also switches the interface language.
2. Target learners — describe who the course is for, or pick one of the AI's suggestions.
3. Learners' level — pick Entry, Intermediate, or Advanced.
4. Course duration — pick a preset (Brief, Typical Course, Comprehensive Course) or Custom to set your own duration, chapter count, and sections. Choosing Comprehensive Course, or turning chapters on in the custom dialog, makes the course use chapters; the other presets produce a flat list of sections.
5. Learning outcomes, Tone of voice, and Prerequisites — same pattern: type your own answer or pick a suggestion.
6. Course name — choose a suggested title or write your own, or skip this too.

Target learners, Learners' level, Learning outcomes, Tone of voice, Prerequisites, and Course name can each be skipped with the Skip button if you don't want to answer them; only Language is required. If AI suggestions fail to generate, Target learners and Course name fall back to a small set of built-in suggestions, shown with the note "(Using fallback suggestions)". On Learning outcomes, Tone of voice, and Prerequisites, that same note can appear but no suggestions are shown alongside it — type your own answer or use Skip.

Review the course structure

The Course structure step drafts a full outline — chapters and sections, or just sections if you didn't choose a chapter-based duration. From here you can:

• Edit any chapter or section title inline.
• Drag items to reorder them.
• Use each item's menu to Regenerate Section / Regenerate with custom prompt / Edit Section (or the chapter equivalents, Regenerate / Regenerate with custom prompt / Edit chapter).
• Add more with Add section / Add chapter (each has an … with custom prompt variant), or delete items you don't want.

Click Continue once you're happy with the outline.

If you reach this step without answering the earlier ones, you'll see Complete Previous Steps instead — go back and fill in the required steps first. If generation itself fails, a Retry AI generation button appears (or, if there's no structure yet at all, a Try again button).

Finish with descriptions and a cover

The final step, Course Descriptions, shows two generated fields — Short Description (a 200-character recommendation, not a hard limit) and Rich Description — which you can edit freely. A Course Cover Image is generated automatically alongside them; you can regenerate it, upload your own image, or pick one from your organization's file library instead.

When everything looks right, click Create course. If description or cover generation fails, you can still write the descriptions yourself and continue, or upload your own cover image.

What happens when you click Create course

A progress screen runs through creating the course, setting up its chapters and sections, generating AI content for each section, and saving everything — then redirects you into the new course. On success you'll also see View course and Edit course buttons before the redirect happens.

If course creation fails partway through, the screen shows Course creation failed with the specific step that failed, and you can Go Back or Try again; nothing partial is left behind. Your uploaded reference documents and saved wizard progress are cleared once the course has been created successfully.
